Cloyd Funeral Home Drawing

Cloyd Funeral Home was established on October 1, 1961, to serve Central Montana. The building, originally known as the Georgiann Theatre and owned by the Weidman Brothers, was constructed in the early 1950s. It later operated as the Fergus Theatre until its closure in 1960.

Jerry Cloyd purchased the building and undertook a remodeling project to transform it from a theater to a funeral home. On October 1, 1961, Cloyd Funeral Home opened its doors, with Jerry and his Uncle Wesley Cloyd managing the business and operating chapels in Stanford and Denton.

Jerry graduated from the California College of Mortuary Science in Los Angeles in 1947, while Wesley graduated from Worsham College of Embalming in Chicago in 1935. Initially, they ran the business with part-time assistance until Wesley's retirement in 1973. Nell, Jerry's mother, also contributed to the business for several years. Later, Jerry's son Rick joined as the office manager.

In 1976, R.J. (Dick) Brown graduated from the San Francisco College of Mortuary Science and returned to work with Jerry. When Jerry retired in 1990, Dick purchased the business from him. Over the next 40 years, Dick proudly and honorably served the community. With the help of a local team, he offered the people of Central Montana a choice with "Service Personal and Distinctive."

Today, we celebrate over 61 years of service to Central Montana, carrying forward the legacy established by Dick Brown and Jerry Cloyd. Under the leadership of Dennis Newgard, we continue to provide the same choice and service. We are proud to be part of the Central Montana family and look forward to being a part of its future.

Cloyd Funeral Home is a full-service funeral home that offers pre-need arrangements and trusts, complete funeral and cremation services, and monuments.
