Vernon H. Vanraam

November 6, 1952 — July 29, 2016

Vernon H. Vanraam, 63, of Lewistown passed away Friday morning, July 29th, 2016 at his home of natural causes. He was born November 6, 1952 in Walkersville, MT the son of Henry and Vivian (Turney) Vanraam. They moved to California and where he started his education, returning to Montana settling in Butte where he completed his high school. He entered the United States Army in 1971, serving in Vietnam he received his honorable discharge in 1974.

He received his teaching degree in Oregon and then started teaching in head start, special education in Dillon, MT. He then worked as a substitute teacher and in April 1992 started his life with Betsy Halverson. They lived in Butte until moving to Lewistown in 2001.

Vernon, known to many as Russ, was a good man that took care of his family, sons Hank and Russell and daughter Jennifer along with grandchildren Sawyer, Hank Jr., Jennifer and Johnathon.

He is survived by his wife Betsy of Lewistown, MT; sons Henry (Margaret) of Tucson, AZ and Russell (Janelle) of Great Falls, MT; daughter Jennifer in Florida; brother Daniel of Aurora, CO; father-in-law Chuck (Anna Marie) Dirkson of Hobson, MT; eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and mother-in-law Kathryn Dirkson.

No services will be held for Vernon H. (Russ) Vanraam, cremation has taken place. The Cloyd Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Friends are asked to make memorials to the Veterans Memorial Projects/Programs of your choice or Projects and/or funds to benefit children and they may be left at the Cloyd Funeral Home.
