Sherry Thomas

April 9, 1942 — July 15, 2023

On a warm spring day, Sharon Ann, also known as Sherry, was born to Warren and Eloise Brow in Redondo Beach, CA, on April 9th, 1942. She grew up near Castro Valley and Santa Cruz, California, until she met a soldier from Montana who stole her heart. They got married on November 7, 1957. After a brief time in Redondo Beach, Sherry, her husband Bob, and his brother Bill with his wife moved to their forever homes in Elliston, MT. They settled in the Elliston Gulch with the rest of the Thomas family.

From their union, they were blessed with children named Barney Joe Thomas (d), Carrie Eloise Thomas(d), Robert (Robby) Charles (Toni) Thomas II, Millissa Rose Riggin, Molley May Barr, and Sommer Eloise (Mike Cox).

Sherry had a passion for painting and horses. Her artwork adorns the walls of her family and many others throughout the Elliston/Helena area. She was an excellent horsewoman, showing various breeds of horses, and later retired as a judge for large and mini horse shows across the United States.

Sherry also enjoyed seasonal work at Frontier Town and planting trees for the Forest Service. She cherished her life in Elliston, living close to her sister and brothers-in-law, and was fortunate to spend the rest of her days in her home until her passing. Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob Thomas, children Barney and Carrie, brother Greg Brow, sister Katherine, brother-in-law Barney Thomas, Jim Hiltz, Al Antila, Bruce Thomas and sister-in-law Marilyn Thomas, who embarked on the journey from California to Montana with her. Son in laws Eldon Barr and Guy Riggin. Along with Aunts and Uncles, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Sherry is survived by her children, sister Kathy Anker, brother-in-law Bill Thomas, sister-in-law’s Cheryl Thomas and Sue Hiltz, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Her three beloved dogs stayed by her side until she peacefully passed away, surrounded by family.

Special thanks go to her caregivers Sue Hiltz and Janice Brown, who provided care when her children couldn’t be there. Sherry is also deeply grateful to her doctor, Jessica Bailey, for her unwavering support over the past 13 years. The family would like to extend their appreciation to St Pete’s Hospice for the immediate care and to Dick Brown and Cloyd Funeral Home of Lewistown, MT, for handling the arrangements.
