Phyllis Louise Floyd, 98, of Lewistown, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2026, in Lewistown of natural causes. She was born March 8, 1928, in Colby, Kansas, the daughter of Harry E. and Lilian F. (Dentler) Pickens. She received her schooling in Kansas, graduating from high school in 1947. She then attended business college in Denver, Colorado.
In November 1950, she was united in marriage to John P. Rooney, and they lived in California. They later moved to Kansas and then to Montana in 1955, settling in Grass Range. They had eight children together and lived in Harlowton, Lewistown, and Great Falls until their divorce. She continued to live in Great Falls and worked for the Great Falls Tribune and Ruth's Yarn Shop. On June 1, 1975, she was united in marriage to Gilbert Ross Floyd, Jr. in Great Falls. They made their home in Great Falls, and she retired in 1989. He preceded her in death in 2013, and she moved to Lewistown to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
She is survived by her children, Robert (Dee) Rooney of Cut Bank, Montana, Linda Rooney of Cut Bank, Montana, Debbie (Dave) Fox of Barrington, Michigan, Susan Stevens (Steve Cummings) of Lewistown, and Angela (Gus) Basurto of Helena, Montana; two stepsons, Gilbert Floyd of Great Falls, Montana, and Tom Floyd of Washington; one stepdaughter, Melissa (Dennis) Wisneski of North Carolina; 14 grandchildren, more than 20 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three children, two grandchildren, two stepsons, and her parents.
No services will be provided for Phyllis L. Floyd at her request; cremation has taken place. Cloyd Funeral Home is assisting the family.
