Mary Jo Durbin, 89, of Lewistown, MT, died on Friday, May 27th, 2022 in the Central Montana Medical Center of natural causes. Mary Jo was born to Mike and Marguerite (Reardon) Stoll of Clyde, Missouri on October 22nd, 1932. Mary Jo graduated from Jefferson High School in Clyde, Missouri in May 1951. On May 22, 1951, at St. Benedicts' Catholic Church in Clyde, Missouri, Mary Jo married Maurice Durbin.
Mary Jo was an LPN for 33 years working at in Lewistown St. Joseph's Hospital, Montana Center of the Aged, Central Montana Medical Center, and Valle Vista.
Mom enjoyed many things including trips back to Missouri to spend time with family, relatives,
and friends; She loved children, sports, vegetable and flower gardening. At an early age, mom
and her sisters learned the art of cooking, baking, canning and butchering. She especially
enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren's school and sporting events. Mary Jo also loved dancing and square dancing with Maurice, playing cards, camping, playing softball, porcelain painting,
knitting, and crocheting (she won numerous ribbons at the fair for her crochet doilies). Some of mom's fondest memories were entertaining family and friends; holiday get-togethers, weekend evenings playing cards and making homemade ice cream.
After Maurice passed away, Kokomo became her constant companion. She loved her little dog
Kokomo and had a hard time leaving him behind when she had to go into the nursing home. She was a devout Catholic and member of St. Leo's Catholic Parish. Mom would continually encourage
her kids to pray and go to church. Throughout the day, mom would spend time praying the
Rosary and saying her daily prayers.
Mom was also devoted to family, friends, the doctors, and nurses she worked with, and the
people she cared for. Words we would use to describe mom are caring, loving, giving,
accepting, patient, and kind.
