Marvin E. Mosby

July 12, 1945 — February 28, 2017

Marvin E. Mosby 71 of Winnett died early Tuesday morning, February 28th, 2017 in the Central Montana Medical Center of natural causes. He was born July 12, 1945 in Jordan, MT the son of Everett C. and Inda M. (Marks) Mosby. He received his education in country school at the Mosby and high school in Jordan and Hobson. On August 29, 1963, he was united in marriage to Betty McDonald in Coeur d’Alene, ID. They lived at Garneill, Judith Gap and Buffalo where he worked as a ranch hand. In 1966 they moved to Great Falls and he worked in the smelter. In 1967 they moved to Mosby and he worked at the Jet Fuel Refinery. In 1972 they moved to Winnett and he began working for the State of Montana Department of Transportation and retired after 32 years in 2004. In 1982 they moved out to a small ranch 3 ½ miles east of Winnett. After “retiring”, Marvin built dams & did road blade work which included some construction work in North Dakota.

Marvin was multi-talented and if he could imagine a project he could get it done with a minimum of tools, most of which he designed to fit the job. He enjoyed building many things. He built a log cabin which was called his Fiddle Shack. Throughout the years he built 23 fiddles, several jewelry boxes all made of cedar which he gave out to family & friends. Also in retirement he & Betty built a large log cabin for their family to enjoy. Some of his most enjoyable times was playing the fiddle, fishing, especially with his great nephews & visiting with friends & family about old times. One of the highlights of his life was a fishing trip to Alaska with his son Blaine.

Marvin was a member of the Winnett Roping Club.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Betty of the family home; sons Brett of Forsyth, MT and Blaine (Keri) of Laurel, MT; daughter Karleen (Tom) Mosby-Gauger of Laurel, MT; two sisters Donna Dutton of Miles City, MT and Arlene (Dick) O’Connor of Jordan, MT; six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
