Larry was born on August 10, 1956, to Richard and Jean Raprager, alongside his identical twin Terry, in Menominee, Wisconsin. He passed peacefully in his sleep on June 04, 2025. The twins and their older brothers, Rick and Randy, grew up on the family marina where his lifelong love and passion for the water were born.
In his early teens, his mother and stepfather bought the Sundown Inn Supper Club and relocated the twins to Stanford, MT. He graduated from Stanford High School in 1975, where he participated in football. His high school years were spent working at his parents’ supper club and the remaining time hunting, fishing, and rodeoing. In 1980, he married Jean Pester, and from this union, four children were born. They later divorced.
Throughout his life, Larry worked many different jobs, including the Stanford city maintenance man, heavy equipment operator in the gold mines of Nevada and Kendall mine, heavy haul driver, and manager of Cat Creek oilfield, but his true love was always drilling. Whether it be oil, gas, or water, he always went way deep!
A true river rat, Larry loved spending his free time on the water with his family and friends. Many a weekend was spent looking for the big water on the Blackfoot, Alberton Gorge, Missouri, and Madison Rivers, most memorable being the trip down Bear Trap Canyon, where lives were almost lost. Larry also enjoyed hunting with his children and passed his love of the water, history, and chess to his children and grandchildren. He was also known to hit up the slot machines for marathon keno sessions. Larry was a lifelong Packer backer and was a cheese head to the end. He was more often than not found with his Packer hat, jacket, and a Camel hanging out of his mouth.
His final six months were spent in the care of his devoted sons and daughter-in-law. He passed peacefully with his family by his side after a long battle with various types of cancer.
He was preceded in death by his father Richard (Sharon) Raprager, his mother Jean (Lee) Silverberg, and twin brother Terry. He is survived by his children Derrick (Amanda) Raprager, Dusty Raprager, Danny (Tim) Crabtree and Dabri (Cheslon) Sheen. Grandchildren Damon Raprager; Dakota, Colt, Shilo, Layne Crabtree; Charlie, and Daxton Sheen. Brothers Rick and Randy Raprager. Nephews and nieces Jason, Kyle, Sam, Carly, Brian, Kevin, and Tenacee.
Larry’s journey wasn’t always conventional, but it was always his own. He always went big and always went way deep.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Larry’s life will be held later this summer on the Blackfoot River. Friends and family are invited to share stories, drinks, and honor a man who lived as wild and free as the rivers he ran.
