Dr. JD Moore of Lewistown, MT. died peacefully at home at the age of 80, with his wife by his side. He was born in Anna, Illinois, to Lamire and Neoma (Hudson) Moore.
Dr. Moore served his country as a US Army surgeon and devoted more than 4 decades as a general and vascular surgeon and emergency room physician, receiving his medical degree at Baylor and surgical residency at the University of Michigan (Go Blue). He believed learning was a lifelong pursuit.
JD loved music and played in numerous bands, being the most sought-after bass player in Fergus County.
It was during one of his best performances at a weekend "gig" in Lewistown in 1995, where he met his most avid supporter, Debbie, his "Love Chicken" and wife of almost 30 years. He would soon after meet and fall in love with his "little chickens" Lindsay and Amanda, and soon after her son Chad.
In 1997, furthering his learning and musical career, JD auditioned for and became the 5th chair bassist with the Billings Symphony Orchestra. Music mattered deeply to him, the shared experience of listening and playing with others.
3 weeks following his retirement from medicine in 2011, he moved to Bozeman, where he received his Master of Fine Arts degree in the Science and Natural History Filmmaking program at Montana State University, learning and rooming together with his youngest daughter, Amanda.
JD loved being Papa or PaPaw. His grandchildren were little sponges that soaked up all the wisdom, love, and stories he shared with them all. He would describe it as the happiest time of his life. It gives us comfort knowing Collin is with him.
His life was shaped by experience, and stories gathered quietly and lived fully. He was many things to many people: physician, musician, mentor, storyteller, artist, and friend. To his family he was Papa, the place you went to feel safe, seen, and loved.
JD lived by a few pieces of practical wisdom, changed hobbies like he did socks and thought he was bulletproof. Riding Harleys, fly fishing, hunting ... those who really knew him know he did it all and did it all his way.
We love you so much it's unbelievable.
At JD's request, there will be no service. The Cloyd Funeral Home is assisting the family.
