Joan Matheson

July 15, 1932 — January 3, 2018

Joan (Congdon) Matheson, age 85 of Lavina, MT passed away peacefully on January 3, 2018 at Roundup Memorial Hospital.  Joan was born on July 15, 1932 in Livingston, MT to Loyal & Margaret (Stands) Congdon. Her early years were spent on the family farm near Pray, MT where she attended school. In early 1945 the family moved to Seattle, WA where Loyal went to work for Boeing building aircraft for the war effort. After VJ day the family moved back to Billings, where Joan graduated from high school.

Joan met Alex Matheson, they were married January 7, 1950 and made their home in Shepard MT and finally back to Billings. To this union they raised 5 children, Ron, John, Diana, Larry and Alex. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, gardening and many other crafts. She was also an excellent cook, no-one ever left her kitchen hungry or with too little coffee! 

Alex's truck driving jobs took them to many states including Alaska, she worked various jobs. They eventually settled on their farm in rural Lavina, MT.  They raised sheep & goats, and ran a well drilling business.

Joan is survived by her husband Alex, of Lavina, MT, son Ron, of Wasilla, AK, daughter Diana Larson, of Harris, MN, son Larry of Lavina, MT, daughter-in-law, Lynette, of Roundup, MT, brother-in-law Dave Demotte; 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Joan was proceeded in death by her parents, Loyal and Margaret, infant son Alex, son John, daughter-in-law Nancy, sisters Mildred and Barbara and brother Robert.

A private family service and internment will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank Roundup Memorial Heath Care for the care they provided for Joan.  The Cloyd Funeral Home of Lewistown assisted the family,
