Jean M. Tuss

Jean M. Tuss 90 of Helena and former Winifred resident died Saturday morning, December 17^th, 2016 in St. Peter’s Hospital in Helena of an apparent heart attack. She was born on July 24^th, 1926 in Lewistown, MT the daughter of Forest J. and Fay m. (Bennett) Burnside. She grew up east of Winifred and attended the Rosecreek School and Winifred High School graduating in 1945. During one of her favorite pastimes, on a horseback ride she met Joe Tuss, a local rancher. Joe and Jean were married on December 15, 1945 in Winifred. For the next 33 years, Joe and Jean ranched 5 miles north of Winifred. Jean was very active in the Garden Club, her church and enjoyed playing cards.

Joe and Jean raised three children Shirley, Larry and Wilma. Following their retirement, they moved to Helena where they maintained a large garden. Jean loved working outside, digging in the dirt and creating beautiful flower beds. They also enjoyed fishing and camping as well as being active in their church. In her spare time jean loved to quit and family members will treasure these gifts.

In 2008 her husband Joe passed away but Jean continued to take care of her large yard and garden. This year Jean celebrated her 90^th birthday, sharing the day with friends and relatives. She was able to remain in her own home with the assistance of Chris Nordstrum who she thought of as a daughter.

Jean is survived by her children and grandchildren: Shirley Van Deusen and her children, Brian (Sherise) Davis, Holly Garrett and their families all of Spokane, WA; Larry (Joyce) Tuss of Winifred and children Kevin Tuss, and Angela Tuss (Jesse Kalal) of Belgrade, MT and families; Wilma Hodges (Loren Terry) of Big Sandy, MT and her children Jason (Crystal) Hodges and family of Salem, MO and Donita Hodges (Joe Cento) and children of Troy, MO; sisters-in-law Frances Lozier in Nebraska and Ann Bossell of Helena, MT and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Donald.

Funeral Services for Jean M. Tuss will be Friday, December 23^rd, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Cloyd Chapel with interment to follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. The Cloyd Funeral Home is assisting the family.
