In 1992, Jim moved to Pinedale, WY and was working at a retirement home when he met a hairdresser, Stacey Hart. The two were married on October 10, 2007, in one of their favorite places, Jackson Hole, WY.
Jim and Stacey moved to Boulder, MT in 2008, and Jim continued his nursing career, working with the elder and at the Montana Developmental Center, until his retirement in 2014. He and Stacey moved to Lewistown, MT in 2015, and he resided there until his death on September 19, 2022.
