James G. Clark

November 1, 1929 — December 13, 2016

James Gordon Clark 87 of Fort Benton and longtime Square Butte rancher died Tuesday morning, December 13, 2016 in the Missouri River Nursing Home of natural causes. He was born November 1, 1929 in Great Falls, MT the son of James E. and Florence (Stripe) Clark. He received his education in Square Butte, Geraldine and Great Falls Schools graduating from Great Falls High School in 1947. He worked on the ranch near Square Butte with his father until entering the United States Army in February of 1951. Following his service in Korea he was discharge in February of 1953. He then traveled in the United States and met his wife Mary June Wilson. He returned to Montana and purchased the ranch from his father and following his marriage on January 11, 1956 in Los Angeles, CA they made their home on the ranch near Square Butte. He retired from ranching in the mid 1990’s and leased his ranch while continuing to live on the ranch until entering the Missouri River Nursing Home in the early 2000’s.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, hiking, traveling, time with friends and family, was an avid rock hound and loved collecting trains.

James was a member of Pilgrim Lodge #102 AF & AM of Geraldine and American Legion Post #102 of Geraldine.

He is survived by one son James G. Clark of Square Butte, MT; three daughters Sharon (Steve) Nelson of Stanford, MT, Sheila (Tom) Tranmer of Great Falls, MT and Cindy Clark of Bountiful, UT; four grandchildren Paul Nelson, Stacy, Benjamin and Natasha Pilgeram and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1967 and his parents.

Graveside Memorial Services for James G. Clark will be Friday, December 23rd, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Geraldine Cemetery. The Cloyd Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Friends are asked to make memorials to American Legion Post #102 of Geraldine, Pilgrim Lodge #102 AF & AM of Geraldine or the charity of their choice and they may be left with the Cloyd Funeral Home, PO Box 595, Lewistown, MT 59457. 

The family would like to thank the Missouri River Medical Center and Nursing Home for the care of our dad over the last several years.
