Harold “Corky” E. Voss, 75 of Lewistown passed away on September 12, 2024 of complications of COPD. He was born and raised in Rapid City, South Dakota to Harold A. and Irene Vera (Nicholson) Voss on April 23, 1949.
He was one of ten children, five sisters Mary Root, Sturgis, South Dakota Betty Alexander, White Lake, South Dakota Bev Menard (Jay) of Apache Junction, Arizona Lila Hillmer (Dick) of Oneida, South Dakota and Cindy Dressell of Palestine, Texas, and four brothers, Darrel Voss (Deb), Ron Voss (Cindy), and Mark Voss (Anna) all of Rapid City, and his late brother Ray Voss (Cindy) of Rapid City. Corky had many special Aunts and Uncles all deceased except his precious Aunt Ruth Hamlin from Marysville, Washington—numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and long-standing friends.
After graduating in 1967 from Rapid City High School, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served for four years at the Lewistown USAF Radar Base in Maiden Canyon and a USAF Radar Base in Fortuna, North Dakota.
On April 2, 1968 he met Connie Ennen, by way of a blind date, set up by his sister, Lila Hillmer. They were later married on September 24, 1969. Just short of 55 years together. They lived in Maiden Canyon working for area ranches, while serving in the Air Force. Their first son Jesse Dean Voss was born December 2, 1970 (now deceased 2014). After service they lived in Rapid City and welcomed Loren Voss in 1973 and Kelly Voss in 1980.They leased Borden Dairy in Black Hawk, South Dakota for several years and then had their dairy, north of Box Elder, South Dakota, C & C Dairy (for Corky & Connie). In 1985, they moved back to Lewistown to raise their children.
Jesse had three children, Justin Olson (wife Megan, great-granddaughter Millie, and the new baby will be born in 2025) Jordyn Voss - Carrboro, North Carolina, and Janae Voss – Las Vegas, Nevada. Loren has three children Erik Raffenelli of Bend, OR Megan Hudson (great-granddaughter Mia) of Kellogg, ID, and Micheal Voss (wife Zoe) of Washington State.
Kelly Voss and Nathan Smith have five children, Morgan Davis (Aaron) of Missoula, MT, Dylan Davis of Great Falls, Jaxan Davis, Kylie Smith (Carlos), and Ethan Smith all of Lewistown, MT.
Corky worked at Berg Lumber, Reese Tire, and finally the City of Lewistown, Public Works for 23 years with street maintenance and city needs. He plowed a lot of snow during those years and graded roads and alleyways throughout the city. He was proud of his work and went the extra mile many times.
Additional family members are brother-in-law Duane Ennen, sister-in-law Darlen (Ivan) Davignon sister-in-law Colleen (Terry) Schmitz, all of Rapid City, and sister-in-law Linda (Rich) Bailey of Glendale, AZ.
Graveside services will be on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lewistown City Cemetery. Pastor Kimmy Briggs will be officiating. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Air Force and Fergus County American Legion.
