Fay Haynie

February 17, 1939 — May 21, 2023

Fay L. Haynie of Grass Range, Montana passed away peacefully Sunday evening, May 21st, 2023 amongst loved ones. Fay was born February 17, 1939 in Hardin, MT to John “Bud” and Vela Redding. She grew up on the family ranch in Sarpy and later attended Wolf Country school and then moved on to Hardin to attend high school. Fay later attended Eastern Montana College in Billings earning a teaching certificate.

On December 29, 1958 she was united in marriage to William C .Haynie (Bill) in Crow Agency, Montana. Fay and Bill returned to Sarpy where she taught grades One through Eight as a school teacher. She welcomed the birth of her first daughter (Folly) while teaching and taught for 3 more years until welcoming her second daughter (Penny). In February of 1965 they welcomed their third child (Craig) and then in June, bought the ranch in Edgar where they lived for ten years. In 1975, Fay and Bill bought the ranch in Grass Range. They later welcomed another daughter (LaJette) in 1979. Fay and Bill spent the rest of their lives together at the Ranch in Grass Range where they always welcomed family and friends until their deaths.

Fay loved all things music and could just about play anything you gave her. Her favorite instrument had to be the accordion and she loved sitting on the deck playing it for hours. Other hobbies included knitting, crocheting, fishing, and watching grandkids at sporting events.

She is survived by her children Folly (Glenn) Nelson of Grass Range, Penny Boka (JP Nicholas) of Dillon, MT, Craig Haynie of Grass Range, and LaJette Haynie (Mark Styer) of Grass Range.

Grandchildren Tamsen Craig (Jacob) of Lewistown, Raechel Gorrell (Colt) of Winnett, Brandon Boka (Whitney) of Helena, Lane Boka (Brittanie) of Lewistown. Great Grandchildren Peyton, Evy and Jay Gorrell, Monroe Boka, and Booker Boka.

She is preceded in death by her husband William (Bill) Haynie, her parents John “Bud” and Vela Redding, her sisters Morita Hollibaug and Barbara Crosley, and brother Johnny Redding.

Graveside services for Fay Haynie will be Tuesday, May 30th 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in the Grass Range Methodist Church with committal to follow in the Grass Range Cemetery. The Cloyd Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Friends are asked to make memorials to the Yellowstone Boys & Girls Ranch, Special K Ranch, or to the charity of their choice and they may be left with the Cloyd Funeral Home. Condolences for the family may be posted online at www.cloydfuneralhome.com.
