Edna M. Kastner

March 10, 1922 — May 21, 2016

On February 25, 2017 heaven gained an angel. Edna Mae (Kleiman) Kastner was born on March 10, 1922 in Helena, MT. Due to her mother passing when she was 2 years old she was raised by her grandparents and her Aunt Lena Dilly. Edna started school at Moore Elementary and later graduated from Winnett High School in 1941. After high school, she attended Northern Montana College for one year. Following college, she taught at Ross School for one year. On May 27, 1943, she married Fred Kastner in Winnett, MT. They started their life in Mosby on the Musselshell River. From this union, there were seven children born. The Kastner family lived on the Musselshell River until around 1950, when they moved to Winnett so their children could attend school in Winnett. Edna stayed home raising her children until they were school age when she started working for the Winnett School District. She continued to work there until she retired. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling to places like Missouri, California, Washington, DC, and other fascinating places. Fred preceded her in death in 1986. In 2004 she moved to Lewistown, Montana to be closer to doctors.

She made many friends while living at Fountain Terrace. She enjoyed taking part in potlucks, doing crafts, and especially embroidering and making pot holders. She always liked to spend time making quilts for her children and her many grandchildren. She was proud and had a goal to give every grandchild a quilt sometime in their life.

She is survived by children Phyllis Hanson, Bill (Evelyn) Kastner and Ronnie Kastner all of Winnett, MT, Doris Hala of Hilger, MT, Virginia (Vern) Hoeksema in Michigan, 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Edna Kastner is preceded in death by her mother, Mary, her husband Fred, son George and daughter Shirley.
