It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, papa, son, brother, and friend Charles (Charley) Ray Stafford. He passed away on July 16, 2025, at the age of 81, peacefully at home in Lewistown, MT.
Charley was born in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on March 9, 1944 to Susannah Grantham and Kirby Stafford. Charley spent his childhood on his family's farm in North Carolina. Shortly after graduation, Charley joined the Air Force. He spent four years in Glasgow, MT. Upon discharge, Charley moved to Pocatello, Idaho, where he was a police officer for five years. While living in Pocatello, he met and married his beloved wife Janice Marie of 53 years of "marital bliss". Charley enlisted in the Army in 1973. Charley and Janice had two daughters, Mandy and Melissa. He left the Army in 1980. After discharge, Charley went to work at Madigan Army Medical Hospital where he worked as a radiation therapist until he retired in 2003.
Charley is survived by his wife Janice, daughters Mandy Ortega (Anthony) and Melissa Lloyd (James), and grandson Anthony Jr., two granddaughters, Angelina and Murphy.
Throughout Charley's life, he touched the hearts of everyone he met. Charley was passionate about his patients and their families. He had a tough job but made every person who came in to be treated go home with a smile and a laugh. Charley enjoyed golf, hunting, motorcycles, baseball, football, "kicking tires", and most of all enjoyed spending time with his family. Charley had many friends near and far. He will be missed by all that have crossed his path.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Central Montana Church of Christ. Minister Russell Epperson will be officiating. Military Funeral Honors will be at 2:45 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Park provided by the United States Army Honor Guard and the American Legion Post 16 of Lewistown.
