Barbara Ann (Newton) Petranek 53 of Hilger died Sunday morning, April 2nd, 2017 at her home of natural causes. She was born December 30, 1963 in Seattle, WA the daughter of Donald C. and Roberta J. (Wise) Newton. She traveled the world in her youth with her parents and graduated from Cascade High School in Everett, WA in 1982. She was united in marriage to Steven Ruiz in Washington and they had a daughter Alicia. They later divorced she continued living in Washington. In 1984 she came to Montana with her parents where she met David Petranek. They instantly fell in love and were married on November 17, 1984 in Bothell, WA. They lived in Washington until early 1985 when they moved back to the ranch near Hilger. She made her home there and was active in helping with the ranch work.

Barbara was very artistic, she loved music, was an avid rollerskater, enjoyed snow mobiling, hunting/shooting and just spending time at the ranch helping and being with family.

She is survived by her husband David of Hilger; son Charles D. of San Luis Obispo, CA; daughters Melinda Petranek of Bozeman, MT and Alicia Ruiz of Cheyenne, WY; brothers Thomas Newton of Seattle, WA and Donald C. Newton, Jr. of Everett, WA; one grandchild Noelani Cardel and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Celebration of Life for Barbara A. Petranek will be held later, cremation has taken place. The Cloyd Funeral Home is assisting the family.
