Daniel D. Watkins





Services for Daniel D. Watkins will be held at a later date; at his request cremation has taken place.  The Cloyd Funeral Home & Cremation Service is assisting the family.
Daniel D. Watkins 64 of Lewistown died Monday night in the Veterans Administration Hospital at Fort Harrison, MT of natural causes.  He was born May 6, 1947 in Lewistown the son of Arthur F. and Margie A. (Kelly) Watkins.  He received his schooling in Central Montana Schools attending Geraldine High School and Columbia University.  He served two consecutive 1 year tours in the Republic of Vietnam in the US Army.  During that time he was awarded four Purple Hearts, national Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.  He returned to Montana and finished his remaining service requirement.  He received his Honorable discharge at the rank of Sergeant on 25 June 1973. 

He worked for his uncle Hank as a mechanic and at Ken Boggs Chevrolet in Fort Benton.  He also worked as a farm and ranch hand in the area.  

He was united in marriage to Ellen M. Finkbeiner in Vancouver, WA on May 14, 1977.  They returned to Lewistown where they made their home.   In 1989 when he went to work for the United States Post Office and retired from the Post Office after 18 years of service.

Dan enjoyed fishing, camping and was a avid Nascar fan.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the VFW of Lewistown. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother George.

He is survived by his wife Ellen of Lewistown; one daughter Dana Jackson of Fort Benton, MT; step-sons David (Marilyn) Ward and Jim (Barb) Ward both of Lewistown and step-daughter Janet (Jim) Kitchin of Missoula, MT; one brother Bill in New Jersey; sisters Ruby (Jerry) Soderquist of Billings, Kathy Beck of Rudyard, MT and Shelia Harper in Utah.  His family included 14 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Just wanted to let you know how much I love and miss you. It is going to be hard not having around to lean on and ask family questions to anymore. My love to all. He will be so missed. Love you sister Ruby

What a great guy! Dan was so good to my nephews and me when we visited years ago. I'm so sorry Ellen. He will be missed.
